It's time for part two of our rundown of The Key to Time, so brace for the ham and cheese that is FX awesome of The Pirate Planet [1978].
Tabby is back, and this episode is brought to you by the letter K, the number 9, and the word Bafflegab. Big Tom, Mary Tamm, and The Tin Dog.
Directed by Pennant Roberts, who also did Planet of Evil, Sunmakers, Warrior of the Deep, and the half of Shada, plus other nostalgic GenX BBC telly. A great director but also somewhat shrewd in the casting. As shown by Bruce Purchase in this one, of Quatermass fame, as The Captain, and obviously his casting of Louise Jameson as Leela. Unmistakably written by the legend that is - or sadly was - Douglas Adams, he of Hitchhikers and Dirk Gently fame. He also wrote City of Death and all of Shada. We were robbed of his talents far too soon. Four episodes totaling 100 minutes. Produced by Graham Williams, this went out in September 1978.

Dirty WHOers [The Lost Episodes] - Episode 1
We're going back in time...
Sputters found an Imperial shit ton of old episodes on a venerable hard drive, which we thought we'd lost to the forces of entropy. This was our first episode [001], published in 2010 on Sunday, January 17th. We pitched it thus:
The big tester to see if this is a goer or not.As telly is currently Who-free, we're starting with our favorite Docs, actors, and eras. Terry has a try at reading the news, while the rest of us provide 'helpful and constructive comments'.
The sounds a bit iffy in places, mainly cos we're mumbling over each other, but you'll just have to get used to it (you get what you pay for, and it's free).

Dirty Whoers Podcast - Episode 101
Amazingly, it's time for The Ribos Operation as we start our review of The Key to Time [1978] season and the arrival of Mary Tamm as Fred. Big Tom, as The Doctor. Cyril Luckham as The Guardian. Iain Cuthbertson as Garron. You’d think you’d know better by now… You’d think WE’D know better by now!
Alas, no TARDIS kitty this time, but hopefully back to the full complement soon.
The usual banter, but a bit shorter than usual, as we slur our way through the usual complicated drinking game and try not to snicker every time one of us says "crown jewels."

Dirty Whoers Podcast - Episode 100
Well, here we are... Episode 100.
Let's not get all weepy about it, let's just crack on with another review. This time around we’re heading back to Season 13, and the early ‘76 fan-classic The Brain of Morbius. Fuchsia, we know this one’s a fave of yours so this one’s for you, babe.
Big Tom, our Sarah Jane, with Philip Madoc as Solon, Colin Fay as Condor, Michael Spice as the voice of the monster, and introducing the mother flipin’ Sisterhood of Kahn and some mother flipin’ actual Gallifey backstory.
Spoilers ahead, obviously. If you haven’t seen it already, shame on you. Go watch this before we go any further. We can wait.

Here we are again, the usual crew to argue the semantics of another classic Who. Spoilers, as ever, be ahead – see the nautical theme there?
…this time we’re going back to early ‘72 and the Season 9 six-parter, The Sea Devils. The stuff of many Gen X childhood nightmares.
Sputters personal Who cherry – the first episode he remembers. Neatly squatting between Curse of Peledon and The Mutants, this was written by Malcolm Hulke (who also did the Target book), script diddled by Terrance Dicks, and produced by Barry Letts – some would indeed say the holy creative trinity of the earth-bound Pertwee era.

Dirty Whoers Podcast - Episode 98
Here we are again, rapidly approaching 100 episodes of this rambling bobbo.
This time we’re going back to the Season 17 banger, 'City of Death' [1979]. Notoriously a Top 10 fan-classic, it came after Destiny of the Daleks and before Creature from the Pit and the final episode has the dubious distinction to be the single most-watched episode of Doctor Who, at broadcast, ever, in part due to the strike that took ITV off the air on that particular Saturday. Big Tom and Lala, skipping around the streets of Paris on a weekend jolly, with wobbly one-eyed aliens and Douglas Adam dialogue. Produced by Graham Williams, with cameos from John Cleese, Elenore Bron, and performances from luminaries like Julien Glover, the lovely Catherine Schell, Kevin Flood, and Tom Chadbon as the irrepressible "Duggan"! – arguably the greatest companion who never was.
Spoilers ahead, folks, but if you haven’t watched a top 10 episode that came out 40 odd years ago you probably need to have a fuckin’ word with y’self. It’s been a wee-while, but RL pressures y’know. Still, welcome to (mercifully) under 30 minutes of our intermittent nit-picking about the historical output of the BBC.
This time we’re going back to the 17th Century and 'The Visitation' [1982] – a period tale of plague, goings-on in the country, androids, yokels with pitchforks, criminal lizard/fish aliens and, in the final few minutes, the Great Fire of London.
Waterhouse, Sutton, and Fielding. Directed by Peter Moffatt (5 Doctors, 2 Doctors, stuff with vets), and written by Erik Saward (Resurrection, Revelation, and jury service on Trial of a Timelord). 4 episodes, totalling 100 minutes. Produced by the John Nathan Turner, and it’s that strange and unfulfilling Whovian middle ground just before everyone else tuned out. Come and join our pain.

Dirty Whoers Podcast - Episode 94
Hello folks. We’re still here. Glad you are too. Here we go again. It's even more bobbo than usual, but at least it's pleasantly short.
This episode we’re going back to the Hartnell era and reviewing the often ignored, ‘Planet of Giants’. Something of a ‘flyover state’ of an episode, this is the first serial of the second season, way back in 1964 – interestingly 4 years before Land of the Giants and nearly a decade after Incredible Shrinking Man – make of that what you will. Packed with practical effects, environmental warnings and casual misogyny.
It’s been 10-months since our resurrection and Fuchsia’s regeneration, and we’re still here home educating, home working, and home improving - making the best of our respective countries, indeed the world, mostly going to rat shit. We’re still cranking these babies out in a battle to fight the day-to-day tedium of our ongoing existence. It’s way cheaper than therapy.
Anyway, enjoy. Seventy-five minutes of a tiny TARDIS team traversing treacherous terrain. Overzealous businessmen, pint-sized poisonings, spurious science, and an environmental mystery on a truly gigantic scale - where the crew make only a small impression and it’s actually a nosey telephonist and her bobby hubby that save the day.

This time we're going to be taking a look at Big Tom and Lala's vampy 'classic', 'State of Decay' [1980].
Terrance, Sputnik, The Kitty and Lord Pez seem to mostly agree on this one. Number 2 in the E-Space trilogy. 4 episodes, 25 minutes each. More camp than a cub scout jamboree, a romping emo-panto left over from the season 13/14 run of horror pastiches and classics - and something of a stand-out in this season because of it.

An hour and a half of rock and roll and rockets and redcoats. All shot on location in Wales. Something about stealing baby formula, missing satellites, screaming kids and Ken Dodd – all will hopefully become apparent.

Dirty Whoers Podcast - Episode 87
The Doc and Algebra Boy go to Logopolis to repair the chameleon circuit, because maths, not knowing that a cricketer is waiting for him to fall off Jodrell Bank. Something about a TARDIS in a TARDIS and Nyssa's dad.
The new team, Sputters, Tabby, Sen and Terry, are doing our best to knock a new one out once a month, so fingers crossed for another one soon.

Dirty Whoers Podcast - Episode 86
This episode we'd also like to introduce Miss Tabby, our new Dirty WHOers regular and the product of an incident between a cup of tea, our TARDIS cat and an unexpected release of Artron energy.
Some of you may recognise her voice - but our ongoing team anonymity continues to be a blessing that means we can say whatever the hell we want. We very much hope Fuschia can pop in for a cuppa/tipple some time in the future, but please welcome Tabitha as she has some big Pixie shoes to fill.
As you may be aware, we're going to be looking at the 'classic' episodes from now on [1963-1989]. We've done A LOT of the new stuff, but in times of crisis, we want to do what we love. We may return to the new series at a later date, but be prepared for some one-off specials on cannon and fandom to fill in the gaps.
We're doing our best to knock a few more of these out while we can, but coordination of the team is always a tricky one, even in lockdown. Please bear with us.

Dirty WHOers Podcast - Episode 84
Pour y'self a stiff one, it's podcast time again. This trip out, guided by the Timelords, we have a moan and a froth about the Pertwee classic that is 'Curse of Peladon' [1972]. A golden age, before farting aliens and manic Masters.
Terry did the homework three times then forgot it all. Sputters doesn't know what day it is. Sen went nuts on the rating and Fuschia is, well, Fuschia. It's under half and hour so bearable.
